My amazing technicolored dreamcoat

I really want to tell you all about last week's trip to Pennsylvania, or yesterday's excursion to Governors Island (I snuck into one of the yellow houses in Nolan Park, and I may or may not be seriously considering going back to squat there), or, I don't know, forgoing my Internet semi-anonymity to tell you every last (read: boring) detail of my new job... but first, I really need to talk about what I just found two blocks away on the street, free for the taking.

Yes. Yes. Some kind, thoughtful, and possibly deluded soul put out a vintage Hudson's Bay wool coat. I saw the classic stripes from a block away and ran to snatch it up before someone else decided they, too, wanted a wool coat on an 88° F day.

I tried to explain to DK what the big deal was, but at that point, I was just kind of babbling really fast and in a really high-pitched voice. Suffice to say that I've been on the lookout for a cheap Hudson's Bay blanket for ages, but that my search really peaked into obsession when I met the coolest 70-year-old lady ever, who was wearing a fringed cape made out of a four-point Hudson's Bay blanket. It was sort of a revelatory moment, realizing that there was a whole world of outerwear that I hadn't even begun to tread.

Ah, serendipity.

Now if it were only 40 degrees colder, so I could actually wear it out without drowning in my own sweat.

  3. Hi Jay, nice to meet you! I LOVE your new coat too! It's so amazing what people toss out here in NYC; what luck!! I got my dress at Artists and Fleas, I spent every dollar I made that day on it and don't care AT ALL! Just started to follow your blog, love it.

  5. That is SUCH a great find! I laughed as I read this, because I can totally relate to you. My husband doesn't understand why one would "need" certain clothes, and I try to explain that "it's totally fashionable and so in right now," but it doesn't matter. ...Anyway, nice work!!
