I wish I could tell you that we stuffed ourselves silly on all that gorgeous food pictured above, but in the end, DK cruelly vetoed my wild plans to eat any and all street food. Four of our friends came back from Peru last month with a few parasites apiece, which kinda sorta really ruined their whole trip. Hence our remarkable solicitude.
I did however drink pisco sours all over town, which are made with ice and (presumably raw) egg whites with no ill effects, other than the fact that I was flat on my back after two drinks--the altitude makes everyone a cheap date.
Next up, Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu!
PS: Last Friday was my last day of work at my old office. I made it through the whole day without bursting into tears... which sounds, I realize, very Stockholm syndrome-y. In my defense, I worked there for four years with two of my very best friends. How will I survive only seeing them on an afterwork and weekend basis?!
PPS: On the plus side, today was my first day of my work at my new office, and no one called me out as a fraud. Also, DK took me out to a celebratory dinner at Colicchio & Sons. Win win!

Beautiful! Thank goodness for living vicariously. Funny, a friend was in Cusco around the same time as you, maybe you crossed paths... very happenstance, no?
ReplyDeletethis photography is so impressive!
ReplyDeleteso what did you eat? is restaurant food safe?
big changes - at least the short week will help ease you into your new job.
I love nothing more than to eat while traveling but you definitely made the right choice. just the idea of a parasite is enough to elicit a fast out of me. welcome home!
ReplyDeleteOh how lovely! I want to go there so badly, especially after seeing your beautiful photos. I got a case of the "unglamorously loosing all body fluids in front of friends" when we went to Egypt. You made a smart move...I don't think I'll ever recover the embarassment or the fact I missed snorkeling in the Red Sea.
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing! Peru just bumped itself up on the ol' places i need to visit list.
ReplyDeleteMelina: I wouldn't be surprised, honestly! There was a crazy airfare deal to Peru a few months back, and although I'm sure Cusco is swarming with tourists all the time, we sure did cross paths with a ton of Americans!
ReplyDeleteJulia: EVERYTHING. Except cuy, because I lost my nerve. I'm still dreaming about the seafood in Lima!
13bees: I know! My poor friends really had a rough time.
DH: O no!! You'll have to make a special point of going back now, right?
cake and cider: Aw, thank you! And Peru is really an amazing country. We hardly scratched the surface. I would go back in a heartbeat!
