Ta da: an old handmade haircutting vest. You know, like what they put on you at salons/barbershops to make sure errant locks of hair don't fall down the back of your shirt--but infinitely lovelier.

As you might imagine, it was the monogram that got me. I assume the double Hs stand for "hair" and "hair," but who knows. Maybe one Helena Herskovitz or Harriet Huygens used to drape her customers with it before commencing the snipping and patient listening.

The irony, of course, is that DK and I comprise a pretty much no-cut household. DK gets trimmed once every couple of months, when his shoulder-length hair threatens to reach his shoulder blades, while I'll get rid of split ends at home, say, once a year? The last time I had a real haircut was in college, when I tried something pixie-ish. It was sufficiently traumatic for me to swear never to cut my hair ever again.
But should you ever need dainty little damasked haircutting vest, just let me know, and you can borrow mine, okay?

But you can use it for your haircuts at home! Do you trim your hair yourself? I think cuts in ny are too expensive so last time I had Jesse trim it for me, and now I'm due for a trim but am scared to do it myself.
