Rise and shine

I have what I'm calling a new morning routine, which deceptively implies that there was an old one. There wasn't, unless you count hitting snooze six times, dry shampooing because a shower would cost me too much time, and frantically rummaging for something I haven't already worn that week.

The snoozing is out. Instead, I wake up with DK, who has to be at work a full hour before me. I make a breakfast: two fried eggs with two slices of bacon when I'm ravenous (most days), one poached egg in broth or a piece of toast heaped with ricotta otherwise. I watch the local news--NY1, because I not-so-secretly love Pat Kiernan--and drink a full cup of coffee.

Today, I had enough time left over to pick up my camera, an act that hasn't been performed on a weekday since Lord knows when.

Of course, there was really nothing to take a photo of, except the cats having a face-off:

And a vintage chart that DK and I bought in Madrid a few months ago:

Sorry, I meant a super-gross vintage chart, etc., etc. Because I still want us to be friends, I thoughtfully cropped the, um, lower portion out of the picture.

But truth to be told, DK and I both love it in all its horrifying 2D specificity, and we paid a pretty astonishing amount of money to have it mounted and framed. We still have no idea where we can hang it without repulsing everyone who visits...

Next time, I promise, more kitties and less anatomy.

  1. i try to wake up early enough to spend a half hour in bed checking email/blogs in order to be awake enough to bike to work...it works about half the time. i could really go for some coffee right now, have to wait till i get to work for that.

  2. LOVE the cats facing off. i feel like my morning routine comes and goes in waves... a few months of soaking up time and taking it slowly, followed by a period of scrambling at the last minute, over and over. maybe it's a seasonal thing?
